The Secret to a Hosting a Great Canada Day Barbecue

I found all of these Canada Day decor pieces from Walmart, including the E & H wood letters from the craft department. Also, love that burlap bottle holder from their Canadiana line.

When summer lasts for approximately 26 minutes, you’ve got to make the most of it. That my friends, includes eating outside Every. Chance. You. Get.

Because whether you like it or not, here in Canada, the summers tend to zip by before you can even shake off the chill of winter.

The truth is, I’ve been planning a Canada Day barbecue for years, but for whatever reason, can never make it happen. The plans in my head are always so ambitious and my time, always limited. So this year, I figured the best way to get it off the ground was to enlist some help; a sous-chef in the form of pre-made burgers and appetizers from Walmart’s Our Finest label.

Here’s what I’ve found: like most things in life, you simply cannot do it all. The secret to keeping sane is to find a balance of items prepped for you and ones made with the freshest ingredients possible.

Because these are are some seriously-juicy burgers that needed virtually no prep, I had time to make homemade add-ons like pickled radishes and jalapeños, and those ready-to-go bacon-wrapped scallops meant I could finally bust out that zippy little dipper recipe Ive been looking for an excuse to try. Plus, you really cannot beat the price point or convenience of being able to pick up all the ingredients–decor and food wise–in one time-saving spot.

Once the proverbial heat was off, I was able to focus on details like setting the table with linen napkins, fresh flowers, and other patriotic bits and bobs that help make a party really sparkle.
